Impact on the environment?

Every reasonable attempt will be made to design, build and operate a facility that is as environmentally responsible as possible. Using smart design strategies, it is our intention to adopt new proven technologies such as solar power and reusable water cisterns to reduce the impact on the environment and the costs associated with operations. Other types of green technologies and strategies being considered are passive solar, active solar, geothermal heat exchange, rainwater sequestration, natural ventilation, superior indoor air quality, and to the extent possible, use of local materials.

For more information, see Environmental Features two-pager.

How will the building process address water supply concerns in the community and how will waste/sewage be treated?

The issue of water supply, water conservation and efficient re-use will be studied in greater depth through the Integrated Design Process (IDP). The Chelsea Foundation and the Municipality are committed to doing everything possible to ensure that the Meredith Centre uses as little water as possible. Similarly, the wastewater and sewage treatment processes at the Meredith Centre will be designed with a view to reducing waste as much as possible.
